Hussein Mohamed is a seasoned Communications and Public Relations Specialist with over 12 years of experience spanning journalism, media, and international development across the East and Horn of Africa. He is the Founding Executive Director of the East African Group, where he leads a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing governance, policy research, communications, and strategic advisory services in the region.
In addition to his leadership role, Hussein currently serves as a Communications Consultant with the World Bank, where he designs and delivers communication strategies that amplify development impact, strengthen stakeholder engagement, support humanitarian programs, and enhance projects visibility. His expertise covers strategic communications, policy advocacy, partnerships, multimedia storytelling, digital campaigns, media relations, and narrative-driven storytelling—effectively translating complex development priorities into compelling narratives that mobilize action and influence change.
Throughout his career, Hussein has held key roles with prominent international organizations, including the United Nations, Heritage Institute for Policy Studies, and the BBC World Service. At the BBC, he worked as a Multimedia Broadcast Journalist, reporting on major regional and global issues with a focus on governance and social impact.
Widely recognized for his ability to shape communications and partnerships in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, Hussein is known for influencing policy, building impactful collaborations, and driving context-driven solutions that foster inclusive and sustainable development. His work reflects a deep commitment to locally led development and inclusive storytelling, ensuring underrepresented voices are elevated and development narratives remain authentic and people-centered.
Hussein holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations (Security and Development) from the University of Plymouth (UK), a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Makerere University (Uganda), and a Diploma in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Nairobi Aviation College (Kenya).
