Hussein Mohamed is the Founding Executive Director of the East African Group, where he leads a multidisciplinary team focused on governance, policy research, communications, and strategic advisory services across East Africa. With over 12 years of experience in journalism and strategic communications, Hussein is a seasoned professional recognized for his ability to drive influence, shape narratives, and build impactful partnerships.

Hussein’s expertise spans strategic planning, policy development, advocacy and partnerships, security and development, and narrative-driven storytelling. He has held key roles with prominent international organizations, including the World Bank, the United Nations, the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies, and the BBC World Service—where he served as a Multimedia Broadcast Journalist – Digital, covering major regional and international stories with a focus on social impact and governance.

At the East African Group, Hussein applies this extensive experience to lead high-level communications and policy initiatives that bridge research, advocacy, and development impact. He specializes in crafting tailored communication strategies that not only inform but also mobilize action—engaging governments, development partners, and civil society actors.

Through his leadership, the East African Group has positioned itself as a trusted advisor and partner on complex issues spanning peacebuilding, economic development, and institutional strengthening.

Hussein holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations (Security and Development) from the University of Plymouth (UK), a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Makerere University (Uganda), and a Diploma in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Nairobi Aviation College (Kenya).

A passionate advocate for locally led development and inclusive narratives, Hussein continues to drive regional thought leadership through strategic communications that elevate underrepresented voices and bring context-driven solutions to the forefront.
